Holy Week will soon be here, and for Christians everywhere, this week is for celebrating and honoring the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Unless you are familiar with the week’s traditional services and observances, you might consider this week as the bookend worship services, Palm Sunday followed by Easter the next Sunday. But for those in high church, it’s a week full of gatherings, readings, prayers, and liturgy. In the past few years, there’s been a renewed interest among Christians of all background in the practice of liturgy-based worship practices, especially in observing Advent and Lent. Despite the centuries of historical tradition, however, knowledge of Holy Week observances is limited, which in turn limits our ability the enter into the fullness of worship.

In this episode of Persuasion, Erin Straza and Hannah Anderson invite Anne Kennedy for a Holy Week Primer. Anne is a writer and serves in an Anglican church in New York with her husband who is the rector. First Anne gives an overview of Holy Week happenings, laced with her trademark wit. Conversation then turns to the push behind the recent interest in high church tradition and how (or if) these observances should be practiced individually. How does Holy Week prepare our hearts for a richer Resurrection Sunday worship? What does the increased interest in liturgical practice reveal? Should Christians dive in to Holy Week happenings? Listen in for dialogue on issues like these, and continue the conversation on Twitter @PersuasionCAPC or in the CAPC members-only community on Facebook.
