Side hustles come in every shape and size imaginable, from graphic design and IT services to podcasting and HR consulting. For some, these side hustles are merely an outlet for a passion pursuit or hobby. For others, the gig economy holds out promise that it’s possible to do what you love as your full-time work. But making the leap from side hustle to career level status in the creative realm isn’t easy—it takes a lot of long hours and sacrifice. The question is, which sacrifices are essential to your work and which ones diminish it?
In this episode of Persuasion, Erin Straza and Hannah Anderson kick off a new series called The Creative Process, exploring how the emergence of the gig economy is shaping our creative pursuits. For example, digital platforms allow anyone to become someone through the power of social media. This access is wonderful, but it’s not without its disadvantages, especially when we sacrifice quality output to meet platform and audience demands.
